Istanbul Museum of Modern Art organizes an exhibition at Netherlands’ world famous Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen to celebrate 400 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Turkey.
Istanbul Modern – Rotterdam is a small selection from the collection of Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, Turkey’s first private museum to organize modern and contemporary art exhibitions. Gathering together works by 14 artists from different periods, the exhibition focuses on contemporary themes such as imagination, identity, the body and the socio-political discourses surrounding it, promises of a happy future, present-day political tensions, the interdisciplinary nature of visual culture, and the sanctification of life. Istanbul Modern – Rotterdam is the latest in a series of shows that Istanbul Modern has held in major cities around the world since 2009. While describing Istanbul as a “new continent” at the center of the contemporary art world, the exhibition scrutinizes the dynamics of transformation and change that have taken place in contemporary art from Turkey from the 1970s to the present day.
Curator: Levent Çalikoglu
The exhibition is organised within the scope of the celebrations of 400 years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and the Netherlands.

Rezan Has Museum brings you together with the struggle of the communities against the nature, their daily lives, worlds of faith, social and commercial relations and even the instruments they developed to contend with death during the civilization process of human which began approximately nine-ten thousand years ago; in short you will meet the silent witnesses of the previous civilizations.
In the exhibition, besides displaying the works pertaining to various civilizations that has settled in and around Anatolia between 6500 B.C.- 1500 A.D. chronologically, they are also exhibited thematically within their own historical processes with seals, medical tools, arms, figurines and idols, weight and measures, lighting tools. In the exhibition, a bronze bathtub, bronze surgical instruments with inlaid silver dated back to 1st century B.C.- 1st century A.D., painted tools from 2 thousand B.C., Urartu pins, obsidian arrow tips, harnesses for horses, devotional sculptures, oil-lamps and terra-cotta sculptures may be seen besides the authentic works that have never been exhibited before.

Is Sanat Kibele Art Gallery is hosting Koray Aris, one of the most significant names of contemporary Turkish sculpture with the retrospective exhibition ‘Kinesis and Balance’ including works he produced from 1970’s to date. At the exhibition there will be the works of Aris including the crippled bodies without limbs which was designed to be an alternative against the use of conventional figuration, works of human abstractions made of skin that became popular in 1990’s and the tumbler-like form studies that swing with the touch of the audience will take place. Seeking an organic relation with the material he used and the forms he preferred, in the following years the artist started using simple forms moving with a little momentum instead of static, non-moving sculptures. These works remind us ofthe moving objects of the game world. These sculptures in which all the details are eliminated and the form that makes up the statue is simplified to the utmost, how and where the modern thinking and life are connected is pointed out. These epic statues, having historical connotation, invite the audience to a feeling of playfulness. Koray Aris graduated from Sadi Çalik Atelier at the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1968. After his graduation he studied under Emilio Greco in Rome and founded his own atelier there in 1971. The next year he opened his first personal exhibition. His later works have been exhibited in many European cities including Florence, Belgrade and Budapest. Returning to Turkey in 1975, Aris became professor at the Fine Arts Academy from where he graduated. In 1997 he quit from his position at the Academy and founded his own atelier. Koray Aris is still continuing his studies in Istanbul.
